Solidarity's initiatives boosted government activities: N K Premachandran

Kodungallur: Over-the-top social service activities carried out by the Solidarity Youth Movement in the State have been an eye-opener for government, said N K Premachandran, Minister for Water Resources, Kerala. He was delivering inaugural adders of a function that was held out to declare Solidarity's People's Drinking Water Project in Kodungallur.

Key problems like scarcity of drinking water can only be resolved with a massive popular support, said the Minister. Alone a government will not be able to do much to fix soaring drinking water unavailability.

Deterioration in consumptive concerns along with the lack of advanced facilities to preserve and to distribute water resources appear to be major issues Kerala faces today. Keen care should be taken to preserve the remaining water resources, which request a widespread public awareness initiatives. A day-to-day scaling down groundwater levels is putting it almost impractical even to plan a large drinking water project in Kerala, said Mr. Premachandran.

Water resources are the asset of people. No one can block water streams or rivers on their land in the guise that it was taken on lease, minister said implicitly referring to TATA's embankments in Munnar.

Mr. Premachandran who reiterated the potency of popular initiatives in preserving water resources hoped that Solidarity's new project will find a great success with massive popular backing. Solidarity's water project is aimed at solving drinking water scarcity in some distant villages. Even, its success, the minister stressed could not be scaled by counting the number of its beneficiaries, but in the exemplary message that only people's initiative can constantly resolve drinking water crises.

N K Premachandran extolled Solidarity's social service schemes admitting that they had prompted Kerala government to launch similar kind of projects. The minister did not hesitate to acknowledge that government' s endosulfan rehabilitation project and E.M.S house construction project were inspired by the Solidarity's endosulfan rehabilitation scheme and house construction project.

He further added that for its activities, Solidarity is being fully energised by the original Islamic principles, thus corroborating the fact that Islam can never be associated with any kind of terrorism or extremism.

Later, K P Rajendran, Minister for Revenue and Land Reforms handed over the consent documents of the primary phase of the project to the residents of Karoopadanna, Musaafarikkunnu.

P Mujeeb Rahman, State President of the Solidarity Youth Movement presided over the function. Sheik Muhammed Karakkunnu, Asst. Ameer of Jamaat e Islami Hind, Kerala declared the project. Thomas Unniyadan, MLA, K V Sakeer and P Abdul Rahiman, District President of Jamaat e Islami spoke in the occasion.
