Kozhikode: Solidarity Youth Movement protests the Government move to raise retirement age of college teachers, said N K Abdussalam, State Secretary of the movement.Raising pension age of existing college teachers after the PSC rank list for the forthcoming vacancies in college faculties has been prepared is betrayal of young generation, he said. The issue turns more serious when added that for the last twenty years recruitment into college faculties was blocked.The decision to increase retirement age will destroy job opportunities for several young people as it is assessed that by 2012 more than 800 vacancies will be reported in colleges across the state.Finance minister's argument that the move is based on a ruling by the UGC is a blank blunder. Because, in several states outside Kerala, there exist different age limits for retirement. Solidarity strongly demanded the Government to stay off from the move, which will result in destroying opportunities for hundreds of young wannabes.
